Unbiased Q. Awning

On February 16, 2005 I received an e-mail from someone calling themselves Unbiased Q. Awning, an interesting nom de plume if ever there one was.

Most of the time when I received unsolicited mail with bizarre names, it is a solicitation for vitamins, drugs, or African frauds. This one had absolutely nothing for sale..... and that in itself was interesting.

Unbiased Q. Awning, whoever he-she-it-or-they are, had some thought provoking things to say, although I think this is very possible just a collection of unattributed quotes. Still, I thought I would provide a little forum, as this is stuff I felt deserves preservation and wider attention.

E-mail Unbiased Q. Awning at ripeness@sun.nankai.edu.cn.

If anyone knows anything more about Unbiased Q. Awning, please contact me.

Adieu.

Good day.

What comes out of you when you are squeezed is what is inside of you.

The heart of a fool is in his mouth, but the mouth of a wise man is in his heart.

Not the fruit of experience but experience itself, is the end.

My case is a species of madness, only that it is a derangement of the Volition, and not of the intellectual faculties.

Fortune has rarely condescended to be the companion of genius.

The fellow that agrees with everything you say is either a fool or he is getting ready to skin you.

It is so hard to believe because it is so hard to obey.

Big results require big ambitions.

A camel is a horse designed by a committee.

Everything is changing. People are taking the comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke. Everyone is more or less mad on one point. First thing every morning before you arise say out loud, ''I believe,'' three times.

Evangelism is selling a dream. The purpose of business is to create and keep a customer. Don't forget until too late that the business of life is not business, but living.

Life gives nothing to man without labor.

There are only three things that can kill a farmer: lightning, rolling over in a tractor, and old age.

Liberty is the right to choose, freedom is the result of that choice.

There are plenty of good five cent cigars in the country. The trouble is they cost a quarter.

To be ignorant of the lives of the most celebrated men of antiquity is to continue in a state of childhood all our days.

He who loses wealth loses much he who loses a friend loses more but he that loses his courage loses all.

Even truth needs to be clad in new garments if it is to appeal to a new age.

The secret anniversaries of the heart. Some people grin and bear it others smile and do it.

The devil is a better theologian than any of us and is a devil still.
