GEORGE R. SERFLING SR. was a Camden resident for 50 years, prior to moving to Merchantville with his son around 1931. A baker by trade, he came to America from his native Germany in the 1880s, and by 1890 was married and living at 1140 Cooper Street. He remained at that address through 1900, and was resident of that block into the 1920s, living as early as 1910 at 1127 Cooper Street. After the passing of his wife Theresa he moved in with his son Harry, residing at 717 Cedar Street when the Census was taken in April of 1930.
George R. Serfling Sr. passed away in Merchantville NJ on February 28, 1936.

R. SERFLING, SR.
R. Serfling, Sr., 69, a baker, died yesterday at his home at
4711 Lafayette avenue, Merchantville. He resided in Camden 50
years before moving to Merchantville five years ago. Mr. Serfling was
the husband of the late Theresa Serfling. He is survived by three
sons, George R., Jr., and Richard, of Merchantville, and Harry,
Camden. The funeral will be held at 2 p. m., Monday, at the Schroeder
funeral home, Broadway and Clinton street. Burial will be in Arlington
