MICHAEL P. LUPICO was born in Philadelphia PA in 1930 to Samuel and Elizabeth Lupico, shortly before the April 1930 United States Census was enumerated. The family then lived at 788 South 7th Street, on the corner of South 7th and Catherine Streets in South Philadelphia. His parents had both been born in Italy and had come to the United States prior to America's entry into World War I. When the census was taken, there were six older children at home, sisters Catherine, Rose, Mary, Jennie, and Margaret. Another sister, Susie, came later. By 1947 the family had moved to Camden NJ. The Lupico's the made their home at 412 North Front Street in North Camden. The 1956 New Jersey Bell Telephone Directory show that the family had moved to 618 North 4th Street in North Camden. Michael Lupico had joined the Camden Police Department by June of 1967. He served the City of Camden for 29 years prior to retiring. During his time on the force he was very active in both the Police Benevolent Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. Michael Lupico had moved to Cherry Hill NJ by the 1990s. His wife Thelma had passed in September of 1994. Michael Lupico joined her on April 8, 2007. He was survived by his stepson John Coward and sisters Mary Berenato and Margaret Abiuso, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. |

A CAMDEN patrolman is hurried to a waiting ambulance following the crash of a patrol car against a utility pole at 10th and Federal Streets last night during chase of another car. Patrolman Robert Bergman, 23, of 3148 Waldorf Avenue, the driver, and Patrolman Edward Eldred 3rd, 24, of 1014 Kenwood Avenue, were admitted to Cooper Hospital with moderate injuries.
