LEON
F. CHUDZINSKI was born in Camden, New Jersey on November
10, 1919 to Stanislaus and Pelagia Chudzinski. He was the
thirteenth of fourteen children. Sadly, his father passed away
before Leon Chudzinski's 11th birthday. Fortunately for the
family, Stanislaus Chudzinski had purchased a home at 1247
Atlantic Avenue at some point between September of 1918 and
January of 1920, and the family was still living their in 1937,
when Mrs. Chudzinski died.
Leon
Chudzinski was appointed to the Camden Fire Department on
October 1, 1943 and reported for duty two days with Ladder
Company 3 in East
Camden. Leon Chudzinski and his wife Rita made their home at
1264
Atlantic Avenue when the 1947 Camden City Directory was
compiled. They later moved to East Camden, taking up residence
at 3003 Clinton
Street.
Leon
Chudzinski's younger brother John
F. Chudzinski followed him into the Department on January 1,
1951.
Lon
Chudzinski continued to serve with Ladder
Company 3 until medical
problems prompted a transfer to the Fire Department's Electrical
Bureau on the recommendation of Department Physician Dr. Garnett
Summerill on March 21, 1958. City Commissioner Aaron had Leon
Chudzinski assigned to the Fire Marshall's office on June 16,
1958.
Leon
F. Chudzinski retired on a disability pension on July 1, 1961.
He was replaced on the Fire Department's roster by Anthony
Moffa.
Leon
F.
Chudzinski passed away in September of 1961, survived by his
wife Rita, who worked for the City of Camden for many years
afterwards.
