HERBERT C.  LEARY is the son of the late George Leary and his wife, Ellen Leary. The Learys were living at 67 Penn Street when the 1940 City Directory was compiled. By 1943 the family had moved to 101 Penn Street, where they remained through 1947. The Leary family later moved to Ablett Village in Camden's Cramer Hill section. There were five Leary children- four sons Herbert, Clifford, George, and Elmer; and a daughter Elma. Elmer Leary and Clifford Leary became career police officers with the Camden Police Department, while son Herbert C. Leary went to the Camden Fire Department, where he reached the rank of Chief of Department before his retirement. As of 2013 her grandson, Herbert Leary, is currently serving with the Camden Fire Department.
