Keller

GRANT R. KELLER was born on August 6, 1934. He was appointed to the Camden Fire Department on April 14, 1959, and underwent his training shortly thereafter.

In 1963 Grant Keller was promoted to Captain. At that time he was the youngest ever made Captain in terms of both age, and length of time in service with the Camden Fire Department.

Daughter Bonnie Keller wrote in January of 2010:

"My father worked all over the city through the years. He was on Kaighn Avenue for Engine 8 at 6th and Kaighn about 5 years all together, he was there two different times, then to Ladder 1 in the old fire

headquarters, Ladder 2 on Kaighn Avenue, and then to 11s (Engine Company 11) on 27th Street at Hayes Avenue."

Captain Keller and his family made their home in Cramer Hill, at 715 North 25th Street, a short walk from the Engine Company 11 firehouse.

Captain Keller was injured in the line of duty in the 1971 riot and ultimately retired.

Grant Keller settled down in Little River, South Carolina, near Myrtle Beach, where he and his wife  Geri owned a dog boarding kennel known as the Antara Kennel. Grant Keller passed away on November 17, 2011
