SECOND LIEUTENANT WILLIAM A DOUGHERTY was born in New Jersey on August 11, 1923 to Mr. and Mrs. John J. Dougherty. The family had recently located from Pennsylvania. In 1930 the family, which included younger daughter Laura and older brothers John J. and James J. Dougherty, owned a home at 208 Denver Avenue in Haddon Township NJ. The elder Dougherty worked as an electrician. William A. Dougherty, after his entrance into the Army, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He was killed when the P-47 fighter he was training on crashed at Wendover Field, Utah in 1944. William A. Dougherty appears to be the husband of Tish Dougherty and father of William "Billy" Dougherty, mentioned in the news article below. |
