Oliver F. Starr Jr.

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS OLIVER F. STARR JR. was killed in accident while serving with an engineer unit in Italy, early in 1945. 

Oliver F. Starr was born in New York in 1919. A 1937 graduate of Haddon Heights High School, he was the the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver F. Starr Sr. of 139 Yale Road, Audubon NJ. His father was an engineer, and a member of the Society of Professional Engineers of NJ. He was one of six members of Haddon Heights High School's class of 1937 to lose their lives while serving in the United States armed forces during World War II, the others being Edgar Crouthamel, Oscar Kline, William Raws, Warren Stafford Jr., and William Tait. Another member of the Class of 1939, Carlton R. Rouh, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

After high school, Oliver Starr was employed as a salesman in Philadelphia, before enlisting in the United States Army on June 16, 1941 at Camden, New Jersey. He went overseas in October of 1942, and participated in campaigns in North Africa and Italy.

Oliver F. Starr was 25 at the time of his death. Besides his parents, he was survived by his twin sister Mary, and another sister, Mrs. Janice McKay. His father passed away on October 18, 1949.
