PRIVATE FRANCIS J. CONLEN III was born in New Jersey on April 3, 1910 to Frank J. and Mary W. Conlen. He was the second of four children, coming after Richard and before Mary and Paul. His father was an undertaker who had his own business. At the time of the 1920 census, the Conlen family owned a home at 31 Tenth Avenue in Haddon Heights NJ. at the time of the 1930 Census the Conlen family had moved to 114 West Atlantic Avenue in Haddon Heights NJ. By the early 1940s the Conlen's had moved to neighboring Audubon NJ, where Frank J. Conlen Jr. operated a funeral home at the White Horse Pike and Harvard Road. Francis J. Conlen III graduated from high school and attended undertakers and embalmers school for a year before being called into military service.

Private Francis J. Conlen III was inducted into the Army on May 7, 1942, and was stationed at Fort Dix NJ. He was killed in a car accident in Mt. Holly NJ on November 6, 1942, and was buried at New St. Mary's Cemetery in Bellmawr NJ on November 10, 1942. He was survived by his parents, brothers Richard and Paul Conlen, and sister Mrs. Mary Dunn.
