PRIVATE JOHN SCOTT was
born around 1906 in Scotland to Robert and Margaret Scott. He emigrated
to the United States with his father in 1923. They were joined by his
mother and older sister Elizabeth in 1925. By 1930 the family had
settled at 115 Linden Avenue in Woodlynne NJ. Robert Scott at that time
was working as a machinist in a nearby shipyard and had been naturalized
as a citizen, John Scott at this time had not applied for U.S.
citizenship. John Scott had found employ in 1925 as a bookkeeper in the
finance division of the Philadelphia Electric Company, a job which he
held until his entrance into the United States Army on May 8, 1943.
Private John Scott was
sent to Camp McQuaide at Watsonville CA, a training center for infantry
and coast artillery troops. He died while serving there on June 16,
1943. His death was reported in the June 19, 1943 edition of the Camden
Courier-Post. Survived by his parents and sister, he was buried at
Locustwood Memorial Park, in Delaware Township (Cherry Hill) NJ. |
