CORPORAL CHARLES LESLEY MILLS was born October 19, 1920. He lived at 1832 South 6th Street in Camden NJ's 8th Ward. He had attended Burrough Junior High School at Haddon & Newton Avenues in Camden. Charles Mills worked for the New York Shipbuilding Corporation prior to his enlistment into the Marine Corps on August 24, 1942 in Philadelphia PA. He underwent basic training at Paris Island NC.
Corporal Mills was wounded during the battle for Saipan on June 22, 1944, and was treated at Navy Hospital #10 in the Pacific. He returned to his unit and was killed in action on June 19, 1945. He was survived by his mother Mrs. Pearl R. Mills, and brothers Carleton and Ralph Mills.
Charles Mills was brought home to New Jersey in the winter of 1949. He was buried at Harleigh Cemetery on March 5, 1949.
