PRIVATE PHILIP C. WENDELL was born in Alloway NJ on January 31, 1897 to George Wendell and his wife, the former Grace F. Cords. His father was a Baptist minister. The family stayed in Alloway through at least the summer of 1900 before moving. The 1910 Census shows Philip Wendell living with his parents and younger siblings George and Srah in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. By June of 1917 Philip C. Wendell had come to Camden, and was living at 331 North 3rd Street. He found work at the New York Shipbuilding Corporation shipyard on Broadway. By the time he was drafted, on August 28, 1918 he was living at 320 Point Street

Private Wendell was sent to Camp Meade MD, where he was assigned to the 12th Company, 3rd Training Battalion, 154th Depot Brigade. Private Wendell died of pneumonia at Camp Meade in November of 1918.
