SERGEANT JAMES E. REYNOLDS was born in New Jersey around 1882. When the Census was taken in 1910 he lived with his wife, the former Fannie C. Hartwell, at 1229 South 3rd Street, just south of Kaighn Avenue in Camden NJ. He was then working as a glass blower in a glass factory. Later during the 1910s the couple moved around the corner to 458 Liberty Street. , James Reynolds had been a member of the 3rd Infantry Regiment, New Jersey National Guard, for years prior to America’s entry into World War I. He left with the regiment for Camp Edge at Sea Girt NJ in July of 1917, and was sent to Camp McClellan at Anniston AL when the unit was moved there. He was assigned to Company G when the 3rd Regiment was reorganized as the 114th Infantry Regiment. In the Spring of 1918, Sergeant Reynolds returned to the Camden area to apprehend a deserter. The deserter was apprehended in Riverton NJ. While in the area, Sergeant Reynolds was taken ill, and he died of pneumonia at Cooper Hospital on April 10, 1918. He was survived by his wife and mother-in-law, Hannah M. Hartwell. |
