A YULE GLOW ALL HIS OWN

Christmas in Camden, New Jersey in December of 1965. The city had changed greatly since the end of World War II, but the riot of 1969 was still years off. This was a far more innocent time than today. The United States would be involved in World War I two months later.

Emmanuel Schaeffer and his wife Mary lived in South Camden for over 60 years, residing at 449 Benson Street from 1918 and raising their children there. He was well known in his neighborhood for his Christmas display, which featured hand painted lights.

Sadly, this would be their last Christmas on Benson Street. Mrs. Schaeffer passed in July of 1966, and was joined by her husband in October.

HAVE FUN, and do e-mail me with comments, questions, corrections, and such!
