WILLIAM
E. HINCH II was born in Camden on October 22, 1941 to Joseph A. and
Elizabeth Hinch. His grandparents, Joseph and Catherine Hinch and their
ten children were living at 832 Federal Street in Camden when the Census
was taken in April of 1930, they had recently moved from Philadelphia.
The Hinch family was living at 403 South 5th Street in South Camden when
the 1940 Camden City Directory was compiled, grandfather Joseph Hinch,
however, had passed away. Joseph A. Hinch, the oldest son of Joseph and
Catherine Hinch, married during the 1930s.
From
the 1940 Directory it appears that Joseph A. and Elizabeth Hinch may
have already left Camden. By 1956 they were living on Lincoln Avenue in
Atco, New Jersey.
Apparently
named after his uncle, William E. Hinch II living at 1113 North 18th
Street in Cramer Hill when he was appointed to the Camden Fire
Department in 1969. He reported for duty in the summer of 1970, first
with Engine Company 7 on Kaighn Avenue and later with Engine Company 9
at North 27th Street and Federal Street in East Camden.
When
residency restrictions were lifted for Camden Fire Fighters, William E.
Hinch II moved to Atco New Jersey, where his parents resided. Sadly, on
April 26, 1976 he
died from injuries sustained in a car accident that had occurred on
April 19. His
uncle, William E. Hinch,
was still an active member of the Camden Fire Department as late as
1977.
