Y.
Scott

EDWARD Y. SCOTT was born in Camden, New Jersey on October 12, 1903 to Charles W. and Elizabeth A. Scott. The Scotts had moved to 29 Marlton Avenue prior to the annexation of Stockton Township. Edward Scott would remain at that address into the early 1920s. Charles Scott worked as a paperhanger and later as a collector for one of the telephone companies. The family also included an older sister, Jennie Scott.

By 1914 Charles Scott had passed away. His widow Elizabeth remarried by the end of 1919. Edward Scott is listed in the 1920 Census with his mother Elizabeth and step-father Charles Greenwald.  Mr. Greenwald then worked as a watchman at a factory.

The 1924 City Directory states that Edward Y. Scott was living at 2215 Federal Street and working as an electrician.

Edward Scott married Ruth McKay around 1927. A daughter, Margaret was born soon afterwards. When the census was taken in 1930 the Scotts were still living at 29 Boyd Street in East Camden., as was his step-father Charles Greenwald. Edward Scott was then working as an electrician with a radio company.

Edward Scott joined the Camden Fire Department on November 17, 1938. He and his family were then living at then-new Westfield Acres public housing project. By 1947 he and his family had moved to 410 Rand Street in East Camden, where they lived through the fall of 1969. Edward Y. Scott retired from the Camden Fire Department after 27 years of service on February 1, 1965. The Scotts had left Rand Street by the fall of the following year.

Last a resident of Marlton, New Jersey, Edward Scott passed away on July 12, 2003, survived by his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Hibbert, his brother, Carl Greenwald, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren..
