SERGEANT WILLIAM B.
LICKFIELD was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Lickfield, of 112 Edison
Street in Collingswood NJ. A member of Collingswood High School's class
of 1938,
he was working for the Campbell's Soup Company in Camden NJ prior to
entering the Army on January 26, 1942.
William
Lickfield underwent basic training at Fort McClellan AL, he was then
stationed at Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning GA as an infantry
instructor as a member of the 124th Infantry Regiment. He was stationed
briefly at Fort Jackson SC before being assigned to the 119th Infantry
Regiment, then stationed at Fort Atterbury IN, late in 1943. Traveling
by train, his unit staged at Camp Miles Standish MA on January 31, 2044,
and left for England from Boston on February 11, arriving in the United
Kingdom on February 23.
Sergeant Lickfield landed with the 30th Infantry Division in France on
June 10, 1944,
and was wounded in the fighting in Normandy on July 12th. He died as a result of these wounds on July 17, 1944, and is
buried at the Cambridge American cemetery, in Cambridge, England. |
