BOXING |
Camden has been making its contribution to the boxing world for well over 100 years. Not only has Camden produced World Champion fighters such as Jersey Joe Walcott and Dwight Braxton (aka Dwight Muhammed Qawi), Camden gave the world Olympic fighter Leon "Donkey" Lucas, World War I Army champion Sergeant Ray Smith, and many other fine fighters. Here you find links to Camden's fighters, managers, sportswriters, and other figures who have put Camden on the boxing map. There are also links to pages about other fighters that I and hopefully you will find interesting. Don't miss the page on Sergeant Ray Smith, who wrote a boxing column for the Courier-Post newspapers in the 1930s. I have reproduces many of his columns in their entirety, creating a window into the local and world fight scene of that time. This is the good stuff!! As with every other aspect of this website, comments, suggestions, and material to add to the these pages are very much appreciated, which is to say, I've started this, but YOU are more than welcome to be a part of it. If you think someone should be mentioned here, then do so, and they will be..... it's as simple as that. Check out the
people, click on the hyperlinks to learn more about the world in which these
people lived, and most
importantly, Enjoy Yourself! Site Last Updated 09/30/2014 |
